John was born in Bolton-Upon-Dearne, near Rotherham on 20th June 1931. He worked at a goods station in Sheffield until he was called up for National Service during which he was promoted to Sgt in the Royal Educational Corps. He went on to meet his beloved Wife Sylvia. John then joined the police force. John and Sylvia had 2 Sons, Brian and Andrew and grandchildre whom he dearly loved. John retired from the RAEC being a LT Colonel to enjoy retirement in Torbay.
